smoke the moon is pleased to present Enchanted Life Goods, a show of functional ceramics in the casita gallery. Behind Enchanted Life Goods is Erin Jane Nelson and Jason Benson, a Santa Fe-based artist couple who bring their individual artistic practices to this collaborative project. This project basks in a playful, haunted reverie present in both artist’s work. Nelson’s work was recently included in the 2026 Whitney Biennial.
The works in this show are meant to be used: mugs for morning coffee, vases for flowers, bowls for fruit and jars for secret letters. Through use, our relationship with objects changes: things develop their own mythology and personality directly related to the way they contain and illuminate our daily life. Within this orientation, the object possesses a unique power to re-enchant the world.
Each piece in this show feels pulled from a twisted enchanted forest universe that Nelson and Benson share. Creatures and trickster figures appear on ceramic vessels, becoming a menagerie of minor gods. Animals are simultaneously angels and omens in the world of Enchanted Life Goods, filled with mysterious messages and oriented toward a new day.
